I don't know why

I don't know why bad things happen to the nicest people in the world.

I wish I did.

I don't know why natural disasters strike or mamas have to lose babies.

I know that I can't fix everything.

But I can do something.

I made this colorway.  It's not everything, but it's something. It's something I know how to do.

A longtime customer and friend recently lost her baby Charlie.  It's in her honor that I am donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this colorway to Share, a not-for-profit organization that provides support and resources to families who have lost babies.

If you're not a knitter, or you don't need more yarn and you want to help in some way, I'll be happy to send this directly to someone on your behalf.

Some people find knitting to be meditative or spiritual. Some people pray as they knit each stitch. Some people find knitting to be a welcome diversion, a retreat from their hectic lives.

Some need to be surrounded by small objects of beauty, by quiet reminders that the sun will return -- for even just a few moments -- from behind the dark veil of sadness.

This colorway will go on sale on Thursday, February 17th. It will be available on our site for the remainder of the month of February. I will make the colorway for you -- or someone you care about -- on whichever of our yarns you prefer.

If you'd like us to send this as a memorial gift to someone, please let us know in the comments at checkout, and we'll wrap the yarn and include a card with your message.

If you're not a knitter and don't know much about yarn, but want to send a gift to someone, I'd recommend Springvale Worsted. It's a soft, easy care, versatile yarn. Every knitter (or crocheter) can find a use for it.

So much sadness exists in the world that we are all under obligation to contribute as much joy as lies within our powers.     --John Sutherland Bonnell

This is my one small thing, my tiny glimpse of sunlight.

Saneknitter and her family, as well as other families suffering from the same type of grief, will be given a warm hug through your generosity. I, too, wanted to help and didn't quite know how. Now I can, in a very small way. My heart is touched.

What a wonderful, touching thing to do. I'm at a loss for words. I'll be posting a link on my blog.

Thank you Sharon. Those of us at the Healing After Pregnancy Loss forum on Ravelry cannot thank you enough for your willingness to do this. The colorway is fantastic. The sentiment heartfelt. The donation truly amazing and inspiring. When I look at this I see exactly what I had in mind. . .hope, memories, joy, future, healing. . .and I am so thankful for your willingness to do this in honor of Charlie.

Thank you.

Hi Sharon, I'm a friend of Saneknitter's. I just want to let you know how grateful I am to you for doing this for her. It clearly means a lot to her and to us (her local friends) too. Our hearts have broken, watching her go through this and to know we won't get to be aunties to baby Charlie. We never know what to do or to say, though we desperately want to make the hurt go away, we love her so. I wouldn't wish this on the most evil person, let alone on someone with a heart as big as Saneknitter's. But it's people like you, and her friends from Ravelry, and her family that let me know she's going to be okay, and that there will be joy in her heart again.

As soon as I decide on some projects, I am going to be purchasing a buttload of this colorway. It is beautiful for it's own sake, but making some things with it will make us all feel like we have him close. I just have to find something worthy of it to make! You know, Saneknitter has been raving about Three Irish Girls for a long time now, and I've seen it on her shelf at home and it's the most beautiful stuff I've ever seen. Whenever I am at her house I must walk over to the shelf and take it down and just look and feel for a bit. But (for no particular reason) I've yet to patronize your wonderful establishment myself. I think it's lovely that this will be my first purchase! First of many. Oh yes, I plan on spending an OBSCENE amount of money, here. Like that scene from Pretty Woman. ;)

Oh hey, I want to see what people make with this colorway! I am "dubhlinn2" on Ravelry so keep me posted!

First time purchaser... long time admirer. What you are doing to honor baby Charlie is the most beautiful, touching i have ever seen. It is hard to watch what has happened to Saneknitter's family and the relentless, undeserved tragedy they have had to bear the past year. One never knows what to say or do in such a situation, but for someone like Saneknitter, who has such a kind heart and creative spirit, remembering Charlie with one of her favorite things (beautiful yarn!) is so fitting. Thank you so much for doing this.

*hugs to all the mommies who have experienced loss*

You're good people, Sharon. Thank you for doing this for Shelley and Charlie.

Wow, how really sweet of you to help in this way. Although I wish I had known about SHARE when we lost our baby boy Grant. I am sure it would have helped me and my family.

It still seems as though there are places and people who just don't have help when it's most needed. :0( I am glad to see this and that you trying to help in the best way you know how. :0)

Sharon, I too am a moderator and member of Healing After Pregnancy Loss on Ravelry. I am so touched by this color and the thought and love that went into it. Unfortunately there are so many women out there who are part of a club that we never wanted to join. Thank you for creating this lovely color. It represents everything I feel about my lost babies. I can't think of a better tribute.

This is such a beautiful colorway and a beautiful gesture. I will be honored to purchase some of this yarn and knit it in memory of Charlie and his family.
I am an ever bigger fan of TIG yarns and you Sharon than I was, for things you do like this.

Thank you just doesn't seem adequate enough. The colorway is stunning. The sentiment perfect. Thank you.

Thank you for doing this! I had my miscarriage in 2009 and though it was really early, the loss is still felt. I can not wait to see the yarn in person and have it inspire something beautiful for me to make.

It's a lovely thing for you to do. The families I worked with for 30+ years in Labor and Delivery who experienced a pregnancy loss or perinatal loss would be touched by this gesture. Surely, there is nothing worse than losing a child of any age. I have often used the verse from Isaiah 41:11 "He gathers the lambs in His arms and holds them close to His heart. He gently leads those who have young" when working with families open to a Christian verse. When I became a knitter, it had even more meaning for me as I already had little figures of sheep/lambs around my house to remind me of the babies I took care of and their families. I'll be buying this yarn, too, as Share is a great organization. Thanks so much.

Lovely sentiment and colorway. I wish I didn't "get it" but I do. So I'll just say Thank You.

I was wondering if I could have permission to snag a photo of the yarn to post on my blog with a link. I would like to help promote this!

I would just love to use this yarn to make a fun toy for my friend's baby. She lost her first baby 3 years ago, and I'd love to do something to remind her that Ezra (her first) is always in my thoughts.

Thank you so much, everyone. The knitting community's outpouring of support means a lot to me and to Shelley, too. Please feel free to grab my pictures off the blog and use them to repost, if you like.

XOXOXO

Thank you for doing this ! This is such a wonderful cause, and the yarn in simply gorgeous! I just ordered a skein and cannot wait to make a pair of socks with it for myself, and my little 3 mos old baby girl. I am honored to know Shelley, and can feel her loss. My hopes and Prayers are with her and her family -- as they are also for Share. It's terrible to lose a life (I have had 2 miscarriages) and want to stretch out my arms and give a warm hug of love to all.

thank you again!!
XOXOXO
