Glimpse of the graveyard

Taken, once again, with my pocket camera under terrible lighting conditions. I bought this camera thinking it would be nice to have a little camera in my purse for snapshots, and the picture quality is just not that great indoors.  But I digress.

Here's about 1/3 of the 3IG yarn graveyard.  Periodically, I clean it out and donate the yarn to a worthwhile cause. The last time it was cleaned out, I donated two full lawn and leaf bags of yarn to a senior center.

There's nothing wrong with the yarn in the graveyard, perse. The yarn will still make someone a perfectly serviceable garment, it just doesn't look quite right. Take the yarn in the immediate foreground, for example. It's supposed to be Clodagh. You can see how it looks a little more red/orange than burgundy. Who knows why that happened. Barometric pressure? The age of the dye solution? Hard to say.

Perhaps I'll make some graveyard kits and put them up for sale here on the blog. I could take 1/2 ounce from a variety of colorways in the same yarn weight and send them all together so you can make a scrappy pair of mismatched __________________ socks/mittens/wool baby pants (fill in the blank.)

Which reminds me, I have hatched a brilliant plan. More on that tomorrow!

yippee, I love getting kits! I'm in. :-)

That looks like a giant box of fun. I wish I could be at the funeral. Reminds me of the Lyle Lovett song "Since the last time somebody died." I lead a 4-H club that focuses on yarn fun--knitting, weaving, crocheting. If you're ever looking for more land for the cemetery, let me know, maybe we could find a plot for you!

Sharon, that's a fantastic idea!!!

It's a great idea! You could always donate all or a portion of the proceeds to charity if you miss the worthy cause aspect.

Great idea! Tell us more about the hatched brilliant plan though!

A kit with enough yarn to do a Baby Surprise Jacket would definitely catch my interest. Of course matching funky pants, booties, hat, and mitts would be going a bit to far.

Ooooo yes more about this brilliantly hatched plan!

You toy with us so, giving the little tease about your brilliant plan:)

I think it is fantastic that you donate yarn to such a good cause and I can only imagine how much they appreciate it.

While I love the idea of donating the yarn to a worthy cause, I see several skeins in the box that I would gladly purchase. Same with the rejects you posted a while back. Something to consider....

OK, I see Quinn in there. How could Quinn possibly be relegated to the graveyard? It's too beautiful to rot away... but I wouldn't want a little of it. A 1/2 oz skein won't cover my daughter's chunky butt. :D

I love your yarn
great colors
so refreshing!!!!

What cool ideas...

If you made little sample boxes for socks, I like some for myself...

At reduced prices, I could afford to buy some of your great yarns to donate to the art classes at the high school where I work, or to let my community service club kids use to make items for charity...That way you'd get a little cash for your charity and I'd get a bargain for my charity.

Keep us posted on your decision!

yarn! yum!

I can see how it doesn't quite match the colourways on your site, but it's still gorgeous yarn!

As soon as I saw the yarn, my first thought was, "'Mistake' or not, I'd totally buy that!" The kit sounds like a lot of fun!

What a lovely box of yarn. I think they are all beautiful.

The graveyard looks like it needs to find a good home. It could go out as an extra with the club shipments, perhaps?

Those of us making scrap yarn blankets ala the one done by Shelly Kang would love to have a selection of wee skeins! We even have a blankiemania group on Ravelry. Betcha you'd sell out lickety-split!

I would love to buy the stuff in the graveyard - it is beautiful!!!!! Where do I sign up?

Common, Sharon, what's the brilliant plan!?

I like that the yarn goes to a senior center, maybe the Girl Scouts, something like that. A place that normally would never get to work with such quality goods.
